About York Transportation

(York, England)

By far the best way to get around York is on foot. Not only is the city centre reasonably small, but many of its attractions are situated in close proximity to each other. Being such an attractive city, strolling through the narrow medieval streets and walking along the historic walls are a pleasant and integral part of any visit.

However, if you tire of walking or are travelling farther afield, the city has a good bus network, with stops conveniently dotted around the city. There are also plenty of taxis in the town which can be flagged down or picked up at one of the city's taxi ranks.

If you plan to explore the beautiful countryside around York or visit attractions beyond the city, it's possible to hire a car from any one of the major car rental companies represented here.

York is well served by trains and coaches; coaches to destinations throughout the United Kingdom depart from outside York Train Station.

There are several airports situated near to York including Leeds-Bradford International Airport, about 33 miles from York; Newcastle International Airport, about 97 miles from York; and Birmingham International Airport, about 134 miles away.
