York has some wonderful theatres that are housed in beautiful historic buildings, adding to the appeal of a night out at the theatre.

The city's theatres and entertainment venues host a range of productions including opera, comedy, drama, dance and pantomime. York's most famous theatres include the Theatre Royal and the Grand Opera House.

York is famed for its traditional pubs of which there are plenty. Many serve traditional pub grub and some host evenings of live music. In keeping with the rest of the city, many are of historical interest, with Ye Olde Starre Inne dating back to 1644. Some are even reputed to be haunted.
